The correct name, as stated by the grandson Emperor Haile Selassie, who authored the book ሕይወቴና የኢትዮጵያ እርምጃ”, ኢንግላንድ ባዝ 1929 ዓ. ም. (My Life and Ethiopia Action, First edition Published in England 1929) is Wolde Melekot. “አባቴ ለዑል ራስ መኮንን የታላቁ የሸዋ ንጉሥ የሣህለ ሥላሴ ልጅ የልዕልት ተናኘ ወርቅ ልጅ ናቸው። አባታቸውም የዶባና የመንዝ ባላባት ጃዝማች ወልደ ሚካኤል ወልደ መለኮት ናቸው። በ 1844 ዓ. ም. ግንቦት 1 ቀን ጎላ ወረዳ ደርፎ ማሪያም በሚባል ስፍራ ተወለዱ። “
